1.2 Strategic Planning
Candidates facilitate the design, development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans.
Artifact: SWOT and Strategic Plan
Reflection:
The SWOT Analysis and Strategic Plan were the second part of the Vision Paper (as detailed in Standard 1.1). This part of the assignment was intended to take the vision to the next level by analyzing our school’s strengths and weaknesses in technology and then developing a plan to address the weaknesses. Once the weaknesses had been determined, I developed a timeline and strategy for improvements to be made.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of Standard 1.2 because I facilitated the design, development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans. I was proud of the fact that the strategies I suggested were of no cost to the school, but instead used teacher leaders as a resource for implementing the professional development and assistance needed.
I would have loved to have been able to put this plan in place to a greater degree so that the vision I proposed could have been reached. Unfortunately, if the vision is not one that everyone has and buys in to then it is not likely to happen. That is not the fault of any one particular person or group of people. There are other priorities in our School Improvement Plan and technology was not near the top. I would like to have the opportunity to bring the plan up again to my new principal to see if it is something we could make a more pertinent priority in the upcoming school year. The plan will need to be re-evaluated to see if it is still relevant for the upcoming school year and meetings with administration will need to happen to put the plan in place. The impact upon teachers and students will not be seen immediately, but should improve once the professional development and teacher learner support have been offered and used. Once teachers have participated in the professional development opportunites and are using what they have learned about the Smartboard and the interactive website resources, they will be able to implement the use of this technology which will impact student learning by having more engaged students who are actively manipulating the board and/or class computers and laptops effectively to show their learning of the specific skills and then transferring that knowledge to student work products.
