2.8 Data Analysis
Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of digital tools and resources to systematically collect and analyze student achievement data, interpret results, communicate findings, and implement appropriate interventions to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
Artifact: Data Overview
Reflection:
The Data Overview was produced during EDL 7305. The purpose of this assignment was to have us look carefully at data from our school and analyze the strengths and weakness and then develop a presentation and a plan for closing those gaps in learning based on student results and diversity.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of Standard 2.8 because I modeled and facilitated the effective use of digital tools and resources to systematically collect and analyze student achievement data, interpret results, communicate findings, and implement appropriate interventions to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning. I used Excel to disaggregate data based on what I learned in the EDL 7305 class. I am not very skilled with using this program and really appreciated the instruction from the professors that detailed the steps needed to input and analyze the data I gathered. I used my school’s CRCT test results from 2011.
This class provided me with a great deal of information that I believe is extremely important for determining student knowledge and how to assess the next steps needed for closing the gaps that exist. I focused on the 3rd graders and 5th graders at my school since those are the pivotal testing years with the threat of retention for those who do not pass. This artifact is the presentation I made to show the data I gathered and the next steps I felt were needed to look at for the following school year. This is a brief over view of what is happening at my school, and I could definitely have included more information to give a bigger picture of the data. Parts of this presentation were used by my principal for the test review section of our pre-planning time for the next school year which is evidence of the impact that it had on her and her plan for pre-planning.
The work that I did on this presentation, along with the Action Plan (detailed in Standard 1.4), and the information about developing Data Teams were some of the most important things I felt that I learned during this program. I am encouraged to continue analyzing data at my school and using that information to guide student instruction.
