2.1 Content Standards & Student Technology Standards
Candidates model and facilitate the design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences aligned with student content standards and student technology standards.
Artifact: Content Area Brochure
Reflection:
The Content Area Report/Brochure was made during ITEC 7400. The purpose was to provide teachers with a handout that gives them the technologies available within a specific content area. I chose Language Arts for first grade teachers and students as my focus.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of Standard 2.1 because I modeled and facilitated the design and implementation of a technology-enhanced learning experience aligned with student content standards and student technology standards. The brochure was distributed to teachers on the first grade team at school. Teachers received a hard copy of the brochure as well as an email for easy access to the hyperlinked sites. There are so many sites that have good language arts activities for young students. I tried to narrow down those sites to the ones that teachers and students could use at school for center time, as well as sites that could be placed on teacher websites for at-home use for extended practice.
Upon reflection of the brochure, I feel that it is not only for first grade teachers and students, but other elementary grade levels could certainly benefit from the information and sites provided. I could have, and may, distribute this to parents via email. Teachers in kindergarten and second grade can also use the sites for differentiation. The first grade teachers I worked with were pleased with the product and were interested in exploring the sites they were not as familiar with. The impact from this artifact was evident when the web links to these sites were posted and made available in teacher blogs, the students were using websites during center time in the classroom, and when there was direct feedback from the teachers using the brochure and sites.
