2.6 Instructional Design
Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of research-based best practices in instructional design when designing and developing digital tools, resources, and technology-enhanced learning experiences.
Artifact: Webquest
Reflection:
In ITEC 7445 we were instructed to create a Multimedia Design Project. I chose to build a Webquest type site where students explore information about different kinds of familiar pets and determine which would be best for their family. This webquest was backed by standards in technology, reading, writing, and science.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of Standard 2.6 because I modeled and facilitate the effective use of research-based best practices in instructional design when designing and developing digital tools, resources, and technology-enhanced learning experiences. This was probably my most favorite product to make while in this master’s program. I chose a topic that I knew my students would be interested in learning about – animals, and developed a site that would be informative and fun.
Through the creation of this site, I tried to make sure that I took into account the amount of words on each page, as well as the reading level demonstrated. I provided visual cues that would allow students to determine where and how to navigate through the pages. I also provided directions to the site in the form or a video as well as written text for students. The webquest was presented to my students as well as my classmates. There were a couple of suggestions made by my classmates of things that could be changed within the site. For example, one person mentioned that I should add a “snake” tab since it was specifically mentioned in my video, but was not on the page. Another person mentioned that the animated graphics might be a little much in the way of movement. I took these suggestions back to my students in my class and asked for their input also. They agreed with the snake tab, but said they liked the animation. With all of us working together, I thought the webpage came out really well. Watching the students navigate through the page allowed me to assess their understanding of the information and the site itself. The Word document that can be printed and completed also gives me feedback and a student product for assessment.
