Artifact: Professional Learning Assessment
Reflection:
The Professional Learning Assessment and GAPS Review was completed for ITEC 7460. The purpose of this assignment was to see how the professional development at our school was being planned based on an interview with administration and an extensive rubric. This artifact demonstrates mastery of Standard 5.2 because I designed and implemented program evaluations to determine the overall effectiveness of professional learning on deepening teacher content knowledge, improving teacher pedagogical skills and/or increasing student learning.
As detailed in Standard 5.1 and Standard 5.2, the Needs Assessment project, Professional Learning Assessment and GAPS Review were all used to determine and meet the needs of the staff regarding professional learning. I analyzed the needs of our staff by determining where we were based on the professional learning standards, I created a teacher survey on professional development, I created a technology course, and I produced a professional development course questionnaire to meet all the requirements of this standard.
I feel that most of my efforts were good and I had a lot of positive responses from staff. Through this process I was able to help teachers in my school and provide some open and inviting learning opportunities that they appreciated. By no means though did I provide an adequate amount of information to make them successful enough to not need more. There is always room for more improvement and more knowledge. I would have liked to have offered a follow-up survey to ask how the professional learning had benefitted teachers overall based on all the professional development offered during the school year.
The impact provided by this was that professional development courses were conducted in a different way that was supported by the teachers and liked. Positive feedback was given that made it seem as though teachers would be willing to participate in this type of learning environment again. Also, this type of learning environment leads to teachers talking about the different things that happened within their training. Professional discussions result where teachers share what was good in the courses they took and what could benefit other teachers and classes.
