3.3 Online & Blended Learning
Candidates develop, model, and facilitate the use of online and blended learning, digital content, and learning networks to support and extend student learning and expand opportunities and choices for professional learning for teachers and administrators.
Artifact: OLE (Online Learning Experience Grid)
Reflection:
The Online Learning Experience Grid (OLE) was created in ITEC 7480. The purpose of these assignments was to create an online learning experience that could be used with students in the content area of our choice. These artifacts demonstrate mastery of Standard 3.3 because I developed, modeled, and facilitated the use of online and blended learning, digital content, and learning networks to support and extend student learning and expand opportunities and choices for professional learning for teachers and administrators.
For the OLE grid, I chose to create a hybrid course for 2nd grade in the content area of math with a focus on the modeling and comparing of base ten numbers. I selected this content standard because I will be teaching it in the fall and I wanted to build something meaningful that could possibly be used in the near future. Writing my objectives was not difficult, but choosing websites with videos, games, and presentations was challenging. I had to find something that appropriately supported the content and would also be engaging for 2nd grade students. I then had to determine a way to assess what the students were learning by putting in learning experiences that would be authentic and meaningful. Although it took a long time to find the sites I wanted to use, I think the end product is something that students would enjoy.
Based on a comment from a peer about one of the assignments, I have already changed one part to make sure students understand what I am asking for in one of the assessment products. Gaining feedback is an excellent way to make sure that the audience knows what is expected. The impact of this online learning class can be assessed through students completing the course and having their submitted products assessed using the rubrics created, and the formative teacher questioning to make sure students understand the math standards being taught. I believe my students would really enjoy learning in this way and would benefit from the different forms of learning environments. I would like to use this grid as a base for an online learning experience this fall to see how the students and parents respond.
