1.4 Diffusion of Innovations & Change
Candidates research, recommend, and implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and for managing the change process in schools.
Artifact: Action Plan
Reflection:
The Action Plan was an artifact completed in the EDL 7305 class. This is a class that has double value. It serves as a class in the Educational Leadership Endorsement, and it serves as an ITEC course because of the technology used to disaggregate data. The Action Plan was developed after analyzing student test scores on the CRCT from the previous school year. Looking at the gaps in achievement, I developed a plan using the strategies and resources available at our school to possibly improve student scores for the following year.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of Standard 1.4 because I was able to research, recommend, and implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and for managing the change process in my school. The second part of the Action Plan was developed to instruct teachers using the Using Data Process (UDP) and make them more familiar with Data Teams. My principal and assistant principal are very familiar with this process and were able to help put this in place at our school. Teachers analyzed data by grade level data teams, and a school-wide data committee looked at the data for the entire school to determine strengths and weaknesses.
I believe that the Action Plan was developed and designed in a way that was not too overwhelming. With the grade level and school-wide teams already established, it was a plan that could be used and maintained throughout the course of the school year. While we are looking at the data and familiarizing ourselves with it, I still feel that we could be using it more effectively. I would like to continue to find ways to use the data more appropriately when developing plans for learning activities. I plan to work more closely with my team, my administration, and my school to make this happen. It will be interesting to see how the Common Core Standards will affect this process in the year to come. Teachers who use the Action Plan and UDP will assess student scores to find the gaps in learning. Once teachers find these gaps, they will be able to reflect on their teaching and determine why certain students or groups of students are unable to answer certain types of questions correctly. Finding these patterns and addressing these specific students and needs is where the impact in assessment will be evident.
